Long ago, when gods still walked the earth, there lived in Ancient Greece a beautiful nymph Amethyst. This is an eternally young deity of nature. She was so beautiful that the god of fun and winemaking Dionysus fell in love with her. But Amethyst rejected the courtship. She liked a simple young shepherd more. Dionysus could not stand this and began to pursue the girl in an attempt to force her to love him. Amethyst turned to Artemis, the goddess of the hunt, for help. She turned the girl into a statue of white stone. Dionysus found only stone instead of his beloved. He tried to revive the girl, poured wine and grape juice on her. The statue sparkled in the sun and became a rich purple color. At that moment, the amethyst stone was born. He protects lovers and protects from wine intoxication.

There is also an Italian legend. According to it, the God of winemaking decided to take revenge on people for neglecting relationships. He ordered the lions to kill the girl Amethyst, who was going to the temple of Diana to pray. Diana found out about this and decided to protect the girl. She turned her into a transparent crystal. The evil Bacchus poured wine on the statue, but it only changed color to purple.
